It's Raining, It's Pouring

Boston and the rest of the east coast are being pounded by a rare, April nor'easter that is actually a "globular nebula" (whatever that is-- if you know, reply and educate us!) that is 800 miles across. It is loud and fierce, and is dumping an amount of rain doesn't even seem possible; apparently, it's breaking records and causing coastal swells and flooding all up and down the east coast. (Our neighborhood of Boston, Charlestown, is on the coast, but we live a good number of blocks inland, on a hill, so no problems for us, at least not yet!) Click here for the New York Times article about the storm. The tree outside keeps hitting our house is reminding us to call the city (again) to come prune it! It sounds like it is going to come right through our house.

It's such a bad storm that we actually brought all of our deck stuff (lights, patio heaters, ice chest, extra chairs etc.)-- everything except the umbrella and furniture set-- into our house last night, before the storm hit. Usually, we just use patio furniture covers and forget about the rest of the stuff, but the winds were projected to be so bad that we were worried it might all go flying. And, we were too lazy to take it all down the deck stairs and to the basement, so it is all hanging out in our kitchen temporarily, which is kind of funny. It's what we get for having spring fever! The storm did not seem bad earlier in the day, but now, late on Sunday night, it is truly "wicked" -- as New Englanders are fond of saying.

Despite the weather, the Boston Marathon is expected to proceed tomorrow. (That's the finish line, ready to go, above.) For those who don't know, the day of the marathon is also a holiday here in Boston-- Patriot's Day. Most people get the day off. We'll both be working, though. We're sure you're all shocked.
