more seriously about retrofitting with A/C our old house. We've had some quotes from contractors, and it's pricey and involves a lot by way of cleverly hiding the ductwork, but we're going to do it. On that note, Team Thiele (left) is preparing to close on a brand new, air-conditioned townhouse in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. Happy Housewarming, Sherry and Jens!One benefit of the oppressive heat has been that we've been able to do some fun beat-the-heat activities through our jobs. Over the weekend, we attended a lovely barbecue at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Grottkau and their three adorable children. Saturday evening, we went to the Cape with several friends through Brian's work, and on Sunday went sailing. On Monday, we attended the Red Sox/Kansas City Royals game with Sherry's work. And on Wednesday, Brian had a great dinner at Grill 23 with several doctors from his department.
Speaking of jobs, our dear friend Liz (shown right, in green, with Sherry, Maya, Julie and Melanie) has accepted a new position at Jeffers, Mangels, Butler and Marmaro LLP in Los Angeles. It's a great move for her. Liz practices in government law, and will be such an asset to JMBM. Congratulations, Liz!
Also, since we're on the topic of work... We thought it might be interesting to get you HausBlog fans more involved than your usual commitment (which currently involves only sitting at work, enjoying our blog, and pulling up fake patient stats, legal briefs or revenue numbers when someone walks by). So, we're going to post questions with our updates and hope some of you join and enjoy the interaction. In honor of Liz's new job, what was your first OR funniest job ever?

First & worst - Working at Wild Rivers (water amusement park) cooking churros in the Southern California summer heat. Read between the lines - it was not a "cool" lifeguard job...it was an incredibly dorky food service job.
It's okay, Les. I've done the dorky food service, too. I worked at McDonald's. I even worked WAY across town from my high school, but a couple from my high school drove through once when I was at the drive thru, and I was mortified. But, at least I didn't have to look at all the people with the cool lifeguard jobs in their swimsuits and tans! As for Brian, we all know his funniest job was the WIZARD. (Dressing up as a wizard for a tutoring company in high school.) He stood out in the 102 degree Sac heat in that thing and people would throw things and moon him. Poor kid. He was a whiz and had applied for a math tutoring job...
