Today (Monday) is Patriot's Day, a state holiday in Massachusetts and a handful of other states, so Sherry got the day off, and Brian actually got to leave early, which is unusual. Patriot's Day is a holiday in its own right (the parade went right by our building this morning), but it's also pretty
much synonymous with the Boston Marathon here in the city. Even if people wanted to come in to work, it is hard to get in or move about the city because of the sheer number of people visiting the city, cheering on the runners, attending the Patriot's Day parade, and so forth. This town was packed all weekend, as a matter of fact. We joined Sherry and Jens today in watching some of the first runners finish the world's preeminent marathon. They were truly inspirational, and it was fun cheering them on with the thousands of people from all over the world who come to watch the race. You can read about the winners here. Watching the Hoyts finish the race (in a ridiculously fast time) has apparently been a Boston tradition for 25 years, and we thought they were amazing. (As the winners were coming in to Copley Square, a giant screen also flashed that the Red Sox had won--in the bottom of the ninth-- so the crowd went even wilder, which was also fun!)
On Sunday, Brian missed the Easter celebrations because he had to work at the hospital. Sherry attended church at King's Chapel up the block from us. (We are trying out different churches in Boston before deciding on one. The church we previously attended when we lived here is rather far away from where we live now.) The service was very nice. Sherry then headed to a festive potluck with Sherry and Jens and some other friends in Brookline. A good time was had by all, and Brian met up with everyone at Sherry and Jens' for a little relaxation before heading home.We also had two great Italian meals this weekend. Friday night, we had a very good dinner at Bricco in the North End near our place, and Saturday night, somehow ended up with Sherry and Jens at Giacomo's, a great spot in the South End near their place. Needless to say, it's back to cooking and the gym after a calorie-filled holiday weekend.
