We closed escrow on our first house this past Monday. We're homeowners! We purchased an old colonial, built in 1850, in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston (30 years before the map of Charlestown to the left was rendered).
We love that it is right downtown in the city; Sherry is 10 minutes from work and Brian is 10-15 minutes from any of the four hospitals he will be at.
We think our new home is very cozy, and we are happy that for the first time we will not share walls with anyone. We also love that the house not only has parking (rare), but has parking for two or three cars (practically unheard of), so as Sherry and Jens have noted, Team Thiele has its own parking spot when they come over. We are very excited to start getting the place the way we want it and moving in.

As some of you know, the purchase of our home was an arduous, almost-five-month-long process (our offer was accepted in January).
We thought Monday would feel like a monumentous event, but after couple hours at the closing, Brian had to go straight back to the hospital, and Sherry, who was so sick that she sat through the closing with the chills and a 102 degree fever, went home to sleep.
By that evening, though, we were both wanting to celebrate our new home, so our friends Sherry, Jens and Courtney came over to the house.
We went to our roof deck, which sports a pretty decent view of the city (if we may say so ourselves), and popped open a bottle of 1995 Dom Perignon that had been given to us by our friends Karen Rosenthal and Matt Hulse as part of a wedding gift four years ago. We had a lovely high-class dinner of Dom Perignon and pizza. 
And we felt like Karen and Matt were there with us. (Except if they were, there would have been donuts and board games, too.) Sherry and Jens provided a delicious raspberry tart for dessert, and Jens got pretty creative when we realized we didn't have a knife to cut it! It was a nice evening, and we will remember it always.
