our friends Shanti and Rakesh. We have been friends with Shanti since she was Brian's college classmate at Cal, and had the pleasure of first meeting her love, Rakesh, on Sherry's 30th birthday in New York. Shanti is a gastroenterologist at Columbia in New York, and Rakesh is a cardiologist at Loyola in Chicago. Shanti will be moving to Chicago 
next year to join her now-husband! (Yes, medicine is unforgiving when it comes to matters of the heart.)We arrived late on Friday night, and checked into the Fairmont San Francisco, a nice, historic hotel in Nob Hill. The gave us a room with a view of the bay and Coit Tower, for which we California-natives-turned-New-England-transplants were quite grateful. The next morning, we woke up late and, after a workout, had a great brunch at a cute, relaxing little place, Nob Hill Cafe.
That evening was the wedding, at
San Francisco City Hall, an absolutely fabulous venue for a wedding. The Indian ceremony was vibrant and lovely, and Shanti looked stunning. Everyone then moved upstairs for cocktails before returning downstairs to a breathtaking reception. Our dinner and dancing beneath the soaring, domed ceiling, at the bottom of the grand staircase and between the regal halls, the entire room aglow with jewel-toned lighting, and adorned with silk linens and flowers in deep shades of scarlet and tangerine, were truly magical. Indian weddings, with their dazzling array of colors, bright, swirling saris and formalwear, intricate mendhi, heartfelt speeches, and enthusiastic dancing, are really very fun.
Best of all, the night was a wonderful opportunity to catch up and party with old friends, including Jason (our friend since seventh grade), Jessica and Kevin (our friends since college; see black and white photo below left ),
John (friend of Brian's since collge), and Bill and Rowena (also our friends since college, see photo with us, left).We also were able to hang out with Sandip and Michaela (see right). Sandip and Michaela are
friends of ours from Boston, who did their surgical intern year with Brian a couple years ago. They are both urology residents at Harvard. It did not take long after we met for the four of us to put two and two together and realize that our buddy Sandip's very close (brother-like) cousin, Rakesh, was getting married to my and Brian's good friend Shanti. What a great family!We ate, drank, danced, talked, and
partied until the wee hours of the morning, and had a fantastic time at the wedding.On Sunday morning, the bride and groom and their families hosted a brunch for the guests on board a boat that traveled around the bay, under the Golden Gate Bridge and back. It was very warm for San Francisco, and perfect for a boat ride and brunch. No one could have asked for better weather. We would include pictures of that beautiful journey as well, but when we woke up that morning, OUR CAMERA WAS BROKEN. We missed so many great photo opportunities! Later that day, we enjoyed a glorious afternoon laying out at Stinson Beach, which Brian, in particular, misses so much, and went to dinner that night before retiring to sleep and flying back the next day.
